1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Remnance ("the Service", "the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.

Remnance is operated by Lawrence Seo ("we", "us", "our"). These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Remnance.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use Remnance. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are 18 years of age or older. If you are under 18, you are not permitted to use the Service.

3. Description of Service

Remnance is an AI-powered dream journalling application that allows users to:

Log and store dream entries
Record day logs including mood, stress, lifestyle factors, and notable events
Receive AI-generated pattern analysis connecting dream content to waking-life data
Interact with an AI assistant ("REM") trained on your personal journal data
View visualisations of recurring themes, people, emotions, and symbols, including an interactive map of connections and statistical insights
Answer optional reflection questions generated from your entries
Log entries offline, with automatic syncing when a connection returns

Remnance is a personal journalling tool. It is not a medical device, therapy service, or mental health treatment. Nothing within the Service constitutes medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice.

4. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must create an account. You agree to:

Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
Maintain and promptly update your account information
Keep your password secure and confidential
Notify us immediately of any unauthorised access to your account
Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account

We reserve the right to terminate accounts that contain false or misleading information.

5. Subscription and Billing

5.1 Free Tier

Remnance offers a free tier with limited functionality, including a cap on the number of dream entries and day logs that may be stored.

5.2 Paid Subscriptions

Paid subscription plans are available which unlock additional features including unlimited entries, AI pattern detection, and access to the REM AI assistant.

5.3 Billing Cycle

Paid subscriptions are billed on a monthly rolling basis. Your subscription will automatically renew each month on the same date as your original purchase unless you cancel prior to the renewal date.

5.4 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely by Stripe, Inc. By providing your payment details, you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis. Your payment information is held and processed by Stripe and is not stored on Remnance servers.

5.5 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. Upon cancellation, your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial months. After cancellation, your account will revert to the free tier at the end of the billing period.

5.6 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription pricing at any time. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of any price changes via email. Continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.

5.7 Refunds

All payments are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. If you believe you have been charged in error, please contact us within 30 days of the charge.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

Upload, transmit, or share content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
Impersonate any person or entity
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure
Use automated tools, bots, scrapers, or crawlers to access or extract data from the Service
Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
Attempt to circumvent or disable any security or access control mechanism
Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our prior written consent
Upload content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party
Transmit malware, viruses, or any other malicious code

7. Artificial Intelligence Features

7.1 AI-Generated Content

The Service uses Google Gemini AI to generate pattern analyses, insights, and conversational responses. These outputs are generated automatically based on your personal data and are not reviewed by a human before being presented to you.

7.2 No Medical Advice

AI-generated content within Remnance — including pattern insights, REM chat responses, and emotional analyses — does not constitute medical, psychological, psychiatric, or therapeutic advice. You should not rely on any content generated by the Service as a substitute for professional advice.

7.3 Accuracy

AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. We do not warrant the accuracy or reliability of any AI-generated output.

7.4 Mental Health

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified healthcare professional or crisis support service. In the UK, the Samaritans can be reached 24/7 on 116 123. In the US and Canada, you can call or text 988.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of all content you submit to the Service, including dream entries, day logs, and any other data you provide ("Your Content"). By submitting content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to process, store, and analyse Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

8.2 Our Content

All software, design, trademarks, logos, and other materials comprising the Service are owned by or licensed to Remnance and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

9. Data and Privacy

Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the collection, processing, and storage of your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

Dream entries and journal content are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption. Encryption keys are managed separately from your stored data.

10. Third-Party Services

The Service is built using and integrates with a number of third-party services, including:

Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
Stripe — payment processing
Google Gemini API — AI language model for pattern detection and the REM assistant
Vercel — hosting and deployment infrastructure
PostHog — content-free product analytics (EU-hosted)
GitHub — source code management

Your use of the Service is subject to the terms and policies of these third-party providers where applicable. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party service providers.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
Any defects will be corrected
The Service or any content is free from viruses or harmful components
The results obtained from use of the Service will be accurate or reliable

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Remnance shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or £50, whichever is greater.

13. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to breach of these Terms.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. You may request a copy of your data prior to termination in accordance with our data export functionality.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

15. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a prominent notice within the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
